Whether it be your daily blog site, an item you might be selling or even your business (real world or internet) - nothing beats 'free advertising'.
Take blogging as an example; you're writing quality articles and you're writing regularly - so you obviously want as many people as possible to visit you and of course you want to keep that traffic coming regularly.
One of the angles I had some success in this week is 'real world' free advertising. By this I mean getting off my butt and finding ways to get free advertising on the street, not just on the internet.
For me, it was as simple as sending a letter to the local newspaper. At first I thought, "The chances of the newspaper ever being interested in a small time internet blog - would be remote to none!" - However, around 4 weeks later I got a call from a junior reporter who even sent a photographer over to get snaps to accompany the story which would be published on my blog.
I may have mentioned it before; but my Sports blog 'NRL News' has really attracted a strong following in a sporting field dominated by big boys and media darlings.
The photographer has not long left actually; and I am quite excited about the exposure that the blog will be getting when it is circulated to the newspaper readership of in excess of 300,000 people.
So to summarize - it's a good example of how going that extra mile (writing a snail mail letter) in the real world can help boost the profile of your blog. Depending on the 'theme' of your blog - even things like signs, flyers or stickers may work for you. For example; if your blog talks about 'making money' as many blogs do these days - a bunch of 'flyers' or 'cards' distributed at a finance conference or similar gathering might get some interest.
I'd love to hear similar stories from fellow bloggers - if you've had some real world advertising success, drop us a comment.
