My Plasma went Pop!

It's been a devestating 24 hours for me, last night my pride and joy - the 42" Teac HD Plasma went pop while I was sitting down to watch some TV. There was no smoke or anything and the sound and power stayed on, just a total loss of picture.

Maaaan! That totally sux.

I have been worried since shipping the Plasma to my new home (from Australia to NZ) that the change in temperature during shipping would hurt it. The packers only did an average job of bubble wrapping the plasma, they didn't have a specific box for that kind of item. When the TV arrived it was literally dripping wet - when items are shipped from the extreme humidity and heat of Sydney, Australia to the colder environment of the mountainous New Zealand - sweating becomes a big problem.

I feel this may have contributed to the Plasma going pop last night. It sounds like a 'short in the Plasma' for sure.

Oh well, I did buy the unit in late 2005 and purchased it on my American Express Gold Card - so I could get the buyers assurance. My understanding is that Amex covers you for a few extra years warranty on top of the manufactures initial 1 year. Time will tell if this works out, but certainly fingers crossed.

Going from my Teac 42" Plasma to a Tevion (Aldi) 80cm non-widescreen TV is a massive drop.. :)
