Mention Facebook get More Blog Traffic

As my quest continues to build a large and useful fake Facebook profile, one advantage I hadn't counted on was the amount of new traffic that posts about my Facebook experiment would bring to this blog.

My first post about my Facebook plans brought a 300 percent increase in traffic
, it seems quite a bit of that new traffic came from the Blogrush widget. So as a link bait topic, Facebook certainly seems to do the trick. The rest of the traffic increase came from various social bookmarking services.

By the time I posted my second article and update on the Facebook experiment I was conducting, I had a handful of new RSS readers and this second article again brought another spike in traffic.

Very interesting.

Certainly a buzzword of the moment, mentioning Facebook won't do you any harm at all. In terms of my experiment, I have well surpassed 100 Facebook friends with my fake account and I have had 90% of people I approach accept my friendship request. While this is a good thing for me and my marketing plans, it does raise a few questions about Facebook security. Are people being too trusting, so much so that Facebook might head straight down the MySpace path? A path where spammers, stalkers and predators now lurk and thrive?

While what I am doing with Facebook isn't exactly abiding by the TOS, it can't be categorized as spamming. I am targeting a particular niche of users, they are then giving me their permission to interact with them and they can stop receiving correspondence from me at any time!

And finally I have registered the domain
30DayMan.com - much easier to remember and something I have been meaning to do for a while. With my RSS count going past 50, it seemed a perfect time to secure and setup the correct domain name!

I've never used Facebook. Thought about it, but never got around to it. I don't even check my MySpace! Thanks for giving me a spot on your blog today!

Hey, what is your fake Facebook name? I can be your fake Facebook friend.

Seriously, I, too, am just getting into Facebook and need to spend more time over there networking. I haven't figured out what all the "writing on the wall" is about yet. I rarely interact there, but receive friend requests every day via email.

Time to jump on the Facebook bandwagon and get busy.

Cheers~

* Regina, Hi! While Facebook is huge, it's not for everyone. If social networking isn't for you, there is always the marketnig angle. Get a fake profile up and start connecting with others, it can be lucrative even if you simply build it and on-sell the account to marketers. No problem with the advert, good to meet you!

* PowerSeller, hey sounds good to me - simply email me your account name at asutcliffe@gmail.com and I will invite you!
